DR JAN HEYMANS

After completing both his undergraduate degree in BSc Psychology (1999) and his Honours degree (2001) at the Medical University of South Africa, Dr Jan Heymans felt compelled to complete his medical degree at the same institute; he graduated with his MBChB degree in 2006.

After graduation, Dr Heymans completed his 2-year internship at Pretoria Academic Hospital and 1-year Community Service at Tembisa Hospital where he was fortunate enough to work for 6 months in the Orthopaedic Surgery Department.

Dr Heymans worked for 9 months as a Medical Officer in the Department of Surgery at Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital before being invited to do his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Pretoria.

After obtaining his qualification through the Fellowship of the College of Orthopaedic Surgeons of South Africa (FC Orth SA) at the University of Pretoria in 2016, Dr Heymans was employed as a consultant in Orthopaedic Surgery at Mamelodi Hospital. After 1 year in this role, he was employed as Acting Head of Department in Orthopaedic Surgery until he began his full-time private practice.

In 2017 Dr Heymans was invited to join the Smith & Nephew Arthroplasty Academy, during which he attended various meetings and workshops in the country as well as abroad. While there he was also involved in various charity projects that involved lower limb joint replacements for patients in Kimberley and Mafikeng.

With his certification as an independent medical examiner on the American Board of Independent Medical Examiners (ABIME) as well as his attendance of multiple arthroplasty and limb reconstruction conventions across South Africa and Europe, Dr Jan Heymans is a specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon with extensive knowledge in his field.

Dr Jan DC Heymans has always been interested in Orthopaedic Surgery and specifically the life-changing effects that sufficient reconstructive surgery can have on patients. With his post-graduate studies in Psychology, he has a holistic view of his field with immense compassion for his patients. From his Pretoria based private practice, Dr Heymans takes a special interest in Orthopaedic Trauma, Reconstructive Surgery and Lower Limb Joint Replacements.
