After completing both his undergraduate degree in BSc Psychology (1999) and his Honours degree (2001) at the Medical University of South Africa, Dr Jan Heymans felt compelled to complete his medical degree at the same institute; he graduated with his MBChB degree in 2006.

Dr. Jan DC Heymans is a highly experienced orthopaedic surgeon known for his patient-centered approach and holistic understanding of musculoskeletal health. His academic journey began with a BSc in Psychology (1999) and an Honours degree (2001) from the Medical University of South Africa (MEDUNSA), where he later pursued and completed his MBChB degree in 2006.

Dr. Heymans’ passion for orthopaedic surgery was deeply influenced by his father, a respected orthopaedic surgeon, who not only inspired his career choice but also mentored him through his first five years in private practice—instilling in him a legacy of surgical precision, empathy, and dedication to patient care.

After completing his internship at Pretoria Academic Hospital and community service at Tembisa Hospital—where he spent six formative months in the Orthopaedic Surgery Department—Dr. Heymans worked as a Medical Officer in the Department of Surgery at Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital. He was then invited to join the orthopaedic residency program at the University of Pretoria, where he earned his Fellowship of the College of Orthopaedic Surgeons of South Africa (FC Orth SA) in 2016.

Following his qualification, he served as a consultant in Orthopaedic Surgery at Mamelodi Hospital, later stepping into the role of Acting Head of Department. He then transitioned into full-time private practice in Pretoria, where he focuses on Orthopaedic Trauma, Reconstructive Surgery, and Lower Limb Joint Replacements.

In 2017, Dr. Heymans joined the Smith & Nephew Arthroplasty Academy, participating in various national and international workshops and contributing to charitable joint replacement projects in Kimberley and Mafikeng. He is also certified as an Independent Medical Examiner by the American Board of Independent Medical Examiners (ABIME) and has attended numerous advanced surgical conventions across South Africa and Europe.

Combining his surgical expertise with his background in psychology, Dr. Heymans brings a holistic and compassionate approach to patient care. He is deeply committed to restoring mobility, relieving pain, and improving the overall quality of life for his patients.
